INFO

blurb: Suzu Anri (real name: Takahashi Mieko) grew up in an ordinary, though affluent family in Sapporo, Hokkaido, dreaming of becoming a ballerina and working hard to achieve this goal. At age 13, however, during a school trip to Tokyo, she attends a performance of The Revue and falls immediately in love with the theatre, deciding on the spot that she wants to become a musical actress there. Although she would be able to audition at age 15/16 after finishing junior high school, her father demands that she finishes high school completely before auditioning. She graduates high school, taking acting and singing classes on the side, then auditions for and is accepted into The Revue Music School where she is chosen to become a musumeyaku, despite her height. Her late start and her height are her main challenges as an actress, but she graduates third in her class anyway and is chosen to join Baragumi upon graduation. She is known as a strong dancer and emotional actress, singing being her weakest point. After seven years (a length of time most musumeyaku careers rarely span), she still hasn’t become top musumeyaku and she is slowly giving up hope. Always the nibante, never the top. The board of directors have, meanwhile, picked her as one of four musumeyaku to get their own dinner show, so this might either mean she’s on the way up or on the way out.

However, on a school trip to Tokyo at age 13, she sees a Revue performance for the first time and falls in love with the theatre, following it as closely as she can until she’s old enough to join The Revue Music School herself at age 18, because her father insisted she finished high school before auditioning. Graduating Music School at age 21, she was one of the oldest members of her year, but also one of the top graduates, though her musumeyaku career ends up being longer than most due to her late start and other obstacles. At this point in time, it’s unsure whether she’ll ever become top musumeyaku.
